# Slack is extorting us with a $195k/yr bill increase

> Hi, daily.dev community! Fellow Hack Clubber here (and part of [the Alumni Society](https://github.com/hackclub-alumni)), and although it was rushed because it was a surprise, for context HC's Slack bill is around USD 5,000+.

> First, get as many users as you can. Second, don't give a single shit about them and torture them with high charges until there're cheaper alternatives.
> Last, spend the money you made to enjoy the rest of your life

> Exactly why I never got the Slack hype. Mattermost is open source, on-prem, and puts you in control, no surprise bills, no data hostage lol

> Monday.com did something similar to my company. We have had the Enterprise plan for years, but they changed their plans and for some reason we had to pay 3 times more with a 2 weeks notice. We paid, as there was not enough time to migrate anywhere our 7 years of data. We are currently building a solution based on Grist.
