# Sliding Into Perfection: The Open Task Light

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A hobbyist named Steven Bennett built an open-source version of Dyson's sliding, self-balancing desk lamp, documenting the process across a 15-part video series. The finished design uses extruded aluminum rails with an embedded PCB and pogo pins for wireless connections, a heat pipe to dissipate LED heat, an ESP32 controlling a dedicated driver for a high-CRI Cree LED, and a rotating bearing base available in freestanding or clamp variants. With over 50 parts, the build costs well under half the price of the original Dyson lamp, and full plans are published on GitHub along with an assembly guide.
