The vehicle-based unit allows eligible citizens to replace lost/stolen/damaged smart IDs, convert green ID books, and update cards after name changes — all booked via the Absa banking app. Smart ID services have expanded from 214 to 541 locations in just four and a half months, with ~750 bank branches expected by year-end. The service runs on a secure digital API gateway connecting banks directly to Home Affairs systems. Absa joins Capitec and Standard Bank in this space, with the mobile unit as its key differentiator.
