# Snowpark Python 3.14 Public Preview

**[Snowflake Community](https://daily.dev/sources/snowflake_comm)** · 2 min read · 11 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Python 3.14 is now in Public Preview on Snowpark for Python, covering the client library, UDxFs, and Stored Procedures. Key Python 3.14 features available include template strings (t-strings) for safe SQL/HTML construction, deferred annotation evaluation (lazy type hints without future imports), improved error messages, and interpreter performance gains. The default GIL-enabled CPython build is supported; the no-GIL build is not yet available. To use it, set the runtime version to 3.14 in Stored Procedures, UDFs, UDTFs, UDAFs, or the Snowpark Python client. Note that BCR-2325 will roll out post-launch, defaulting package sourcing to PyPI for Python 3.14 functions.

## Questions this post answers

### How do I start using Python 3.14 in Snowpark stored procedures or UDFs?

Set the Python runtime to 3.14 in the Snowpark environment, whether for stored procedures, UDFs, UDTFs, UDAFs, or the Snowpark Python client, since Python 3.14 is now in Public Preview. Note that Snowpark currently only supports the default GIL-enabled CPython 3.14 build, not the new officially supported no-GIL build.

_Teams upgrading Snowpark runtimes can track Python version support changes like this on daily.dev._

### Does Snowpark support the no-GIL build of Python 3.14?

No, Snowpark currently only supports the default Python 3.14 release build, which ships with the GIL enabled. Although Python 3.14 makes the no-GIL build an officially supported, non-experimental option, Snowpark has not added support for it yet.

_Developers weighing free-threaded Python adoption can follow platform support updates on daily.dev._

### Where will packages come from for Python 3.14 functions in Snowflake after BCR-2325 rolls out?

Packages will be sourced from PyPI by default for functions created with the Python 3.14 runtime, unless an artifact repository is explicitly specified or another default artifact repository is set. This change, tracked as BCR-2325, rolls out following the Python 3.14 Public Preview launch in Snowpark.
