# So Long, CHU, And Thanks For All The Time Signals

## Summary

Canada's CHU shortwave time signal station, operated by the National Research Council of Canada since 1923, is shutting down on June 22, 2026. CHU broadcast time signals on 3330, 7850, and 14670 kHz using Morse code, voice announcements in English and French, DUT1 pulse format, and digital FSK time codes. The station served as a wireless time reference for radio clocks, particularly useful in Canada and areas where US-based WWVB or European signals were harder to receive. Those with clocks dependent on CHU can build their own transmitter using a GPS time source as an alternative.
