Audi's Edge Cloud for Production (EC4P) project transforms traditional manufacturing by replacing thousands of hardware components with a centralized, virtualized server cluster. This software-defined approach enables real-time control with 100 microseconds network latency, allowing virtualization of Industrial PCs, PLCs, and safety equipment. Cisco provided the critical networking infrastructure including Industrial Ethernet switches, Software-Defined Access, security through ISE, and comprehensive testing environments. The initiative bridges IT and OT environments, delivering improved security, reduced costs and energy consumption, and a scalable architecture ready for deployment across 100+ Volkswagen Group plants globally.
