# Solid 2.0 hits RC with real async, Astro 7 rewrites its compiler in Rust

## Summary

Two framework releases dominate today: Solid 2.0 reaches release candidate with computations that can suspend on promises natively, and Astro 7 ships a Rust-based compiler and Markdown pipeline with builds up to 61% faster. SvelteKit 3's RC follows a similar pattern, requiring Vite 8 and reworking config and routing. Meanwhile Appwrite shaves 4x off dependency install times with a build cache, and Brave locks down GPU fingerprinting by default. Fastify quietly deprecates two logging options ahead of v6.

**TLDR:** Two framework releases dominate today: Solid 2.0 reaches release candidate with computations that can suspend on promises natively, and Astro 7 ships a Rust-based compiler and Markdown pipeline with builds up to 61% faster. SvelteKit 3's RC follows a similar pattern, requiring Vite 8 and reworking config and routing. ## Solid 2.0 reaches release candidate with first-class async

The headline change is that computations can now return promises directly, and the reactive graph suspends and resumes on its own instead of relying on bolted-on workarounds. The reactive core was rebuilt from scratch, not patched, and optimistic mutations let UI updates show before a server round trip completes. Solid put together two StackBlitz starters (CSR and SSR) if you want to poke at it without setting up a local project. [Read more](https://daily.dev/feed-by-ids?id=fWNxbelQc&id=r7XMAOOn3)

## Astro 7 rewrites its compiler and Markdown pipeline in Rust

The `.astro` compiler moved from Go to Rust, and Markdown/MDX processing now runs through a new Rust pipeline called Sätteri instead of the unified/remark/rehype stack. Astro's own benchmarks show builds 15-61% faster, with the astro.build site dropping from 62.70s to 24.24s, and dependency count fell from 247 to 190. The compiler is also stricter now, invalid HTML that used to slide through will throw errors, which is where most of the pushback is coming from. `@astrojs/db` is gone entirely, so anyone using it needs to move to Drizzle or `node:sqlite`, and `npx @astrojs/upgrade` handles most of the rest. Version 7.2 adds experimental incremental static builds keyed on a `cacheKey` from `getStaticPaths()`, which could meaningfully cut rebuild times on large content sites. ## SvelteKit 3 RC brings breaking changes and a migration tool

SvelteKit 3 moves config into vite.config.ts, replaces the $lib alias with Node subpath imports (#lib), and reworks error handling around Svelte 5 error boundaries. It requires Vite 8 with Rolldown and adopts the Vite Environment API, though FetchableDevEnvironment isn't supported. A `sv migrate` tool handles most of the breaking changes, and remote functions remain experimental but are positioned as the future of client-server communication. ## Appwrite's build cache cuts dependency install time 4x

Appwrite now caches pnpm and bun package stores between deployments using SquashFS images instead of re-downloading everything on every build. On a real Next.js app, install times dropped from 11.7s to 2.8s with pnpm and 9.6s to 2.3s with bun, roughly a 4.2x speedup, with no configuration changes required. ## Also notable

- **Brave defaults to blocking GPU fingerprinting:** Starting in version 1.93, Brave de-identifies WebGL vendor/renderer strings to one shared generic value and empties WebGPU adapter descriptors by default, after finding most top sites use these APIs almost exclusively for fingerprinting rather than rendering. - **Fastify deprecates two logging options ahead of v6:** disableRequestLogging and requestIdLogLabel are deprecated in favor of the newer logController option (available since v5.10.0), which exposes every automatic log line as an overridable method and will fully replace the old top-level flags in fastify@6. - **Oxlint's type-aware linting goes stable at 18x ESLint's speed:** Oxlint's tsgolint now covers 59 of 61 typescript-eslint rules and runs up to 18x faster than ESLint with typescript-eslint, tied to TypeScript v7 versioning. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/tryxUc4Bn)
- **WordPress 7.1 ships a no-JS SVG icon API:** Landing August 19, 2026, WordPress 7.1 adds wp_register_icon_collection(), wp_register_icon(), and wp_get_icon() for registering and rendering custom SVG icons without JavaScript or a build step, with support in the core/icon block and over the REST API.
