MIT PhD graduate Camille Cunin developed novel soft bioelectronic devices by designing layered polymer-metal composites inspired by the French pastry mille-feuille. Her organic transistor design addresses two core challenges: enabling both ion and electron movement in soft, hydrated environments, and maintaining flexibility to conform to human tissue. The work involved characterizing new materials, fabricating transistors, and testing devices in animal models. Cunin now applies this research at neurotechnology startup Axoft, developing soft implantable brain electrodes to advance understanding of neural function and improve patient therapies.
