The fake vulnerabilities — targeting SQLite, libraw, and an Arduino audio decoder — still made it into the US National Vulnerability Database, where CISA enriched them and scanners worldwide treated them as real. One SQLite entry was briefly rated a perfect 10.0 by Red Hat before being downgraded. The core problem is structural: anyone can submit a CVE through MITRE's public form, NIST's manual review backlog exceeded 27,000 reports by end of 2025, and no step in the pipeline requires reproducing a bug.
