Both companies argue price increases stemmed from a mix of factors like inflation, currency fluctuations, and component costs, not solely tariffs, and that they have no legal obligation to issue refunds. Sony noted it raised prices again even after tariffs were invalidated, undermining the tariff-causation claim, despite expecting $508 million in tariff refunds that boosted Q1 operating income by 37%.
