STMicroelectronics has announced the VL53L9CX, its first direct Time-of-Flight (dToF) 3D LiDAR all-in-one module. The sensor offers a 5cm to 9m sensing range, a 72° field of view, 2268 zones (54x42) resolution, and up to 100 Hz frame rate. It uses dual VCSEL flood illumination at 940nm and supports MIPI I3C or MIPI CSI host interfaces with on-chip histogram processing. Target applications include robotics SLAM and obstacle avoidance, industrial volume measurement, smart building presence detection, AR/VR gesture recognition, and healthcare fall detection. Two developer platforms are available: the STEVAL-VL53L9 module (compatible with STM32, Raspberry Pi, Rockchip) and the X-NUCLEO-53L9A1 expansion board. Mass production is set to begin in early July 2026, though pricing for the sensor itself has not been disclosed.
