Standards Matter for Cars, Plugs, WiFi—and AI?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has released a new standard, ISO/IEC 42001, for AI management systems. It provides comprehensive guidance for the responsible and effective use of AI. Big AI companies have conflicting standards, but organizations like ISO and IEEE could provide widely-agreed-upon parameters. The ISO standard gives concrete guidelines that support responsible AI development and use. It is not mandatory, but adoption could be motivated by preparing for future regulations, building trust with end users, and fostering a culture of responsible AI development.
