# STMicroelectronics forecasts $4.15bn quarter as AI data centres lift demand

**[The Next Web](https://daily.dev/sources/tnw)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

STMicroelectronics forecasts fourth-quarter revenue of $4.15bn, up about 10.5% from Q3 and above analyst estimates. Third-quarter revenue rose 17.9% to $3.76bn, with operating income nearly doubling to $429m, beating the $400.5m analysts expected. CEO Jean-Marc Chery says demand 'remains well above supply' as the company expands capacity. Chery told analysts ST now expects about $1.3bn in data centre revenue this year, up from a July forecast of more than $1bn, and that silicon photonics chips drove most of the demand. Gross margin rose to 37.3% from 33.2% a year earlier, and ST is raising prices on some products due to tight supply and rising input costs.

## Questions this post answers

### How much data center revenue does STMicroelectronics expect this year from AI demand?

STMicroelectronics now expects about $1.3 billion in data centre revenue this year, up from a July forecast of more than $1 billion. CEO Jean-Marc Chery said silicon photonics chips, which use light to move data between servers, drove most of that demand. The company kept its 2027 target of well above $2 billion in data centre revenue.

### Why is STMicroelectronics raising prices on some of its chips?

STMicroelectronics is raising prices on some products because supply is tight and input costs are rising, finance chief Lorenzo Grandi said. CEO Jean-Marc Chery also said the company now plans equipment, materials, and chemicals three to four years ahead, partly because building 'sovereign' supply chains free of China, Taiwan, or the US adds complexity.
