# Stop Using AI for Everything

i wanna keep this post (ramblings of a mad man) short and simple. ai is everywhere, and you cannot escape it. each of your developer tools is using it. it's being incorporated into restaurant checkout flows. my microwave recommended a better way to heat up last week's Texas Roadhouse leftovers (and then my air fryer rebutted against the microwave). it's **_everywhere_**.

people on the teams i work with keep butting in to very low-level, technical discussions, chiming in with "**_well, i just asked ChatGPT for its opinion on X and Y, and it suggests Z_**"

i didnt mind the first few times i heard this, but i can't help but notice now that each time someone says this, they have no clue what they are talking about. 

they have no clue why the technical discussion is taking place.

they have no clue how / why the technical landscape of the problem surface has already eliminated the exact trivial suggestions AI has suggested, due to heaps of missing technical context given to the AI agent.

AI is convenient, but we use it for every little passing morsel that crosses into our stream of thought. i miss the days when there wasn't a virtual assistant at our fingertips ready to convince us that we are experts and authorities on any given subject matter.

my two cents: remind yourself of the value of deeply diving in to nitty gritty subject matter. don't use AI to think for you. do the homework of "going to the library", sifting through data, and engaging with the problems at hand. you don't need to be spoon fed the answer to every challenge you face.
