Deno Deploy shuts down in six months; JSR moves to Cloudflare infrastructure; Fresh stays supported. The real prize is SQLD, a Rust binary Deno built in August that lets Cloudflare's durable objects scale and self-host outside Cloudflare's own servers, something Cloudflare's open-source workerd runtime never managed on its own. Ryan Dahl and Bert will lead merging this into workerd, making self-hosted workers a first-class option. Cloudflare argues this reduces lock-in rather than entrenching it, citing Shopify's 2022 demand for open-sourcing workerd before adopting Workers for Platforms.
