# Tabs stop working once you're running more than one agent

## Summary

nodeterm is a macOS terminal multiplexer that replaces the traditional tab stack with an infinite pan/zoom canvas where each shell session is a draggable node. Built on tmux for session persistence, it adds hook-driven status badges (RUNNING, NEEDS YOU), subagent cards with live transcripts, a context-window meter, and cross-agent transcript sharing — all aimed at developers running multiple AI coding agents simultaneously. Currently at v0.2.9, macOS-only, unsigned, and licensed under BUSL-1.1 (flips to MIT after four years). Six GitHub stars — very early stage.

## Content

Stacked terminal tabs hide what's running where. And it gets worse the more agents you run.

I live inside Claude Code most of the day. Tabs don't scale past a couple of sessions. You lose the map.

nodeterm swaps the tab stack for an infinite pan/zoom canvas. Every shell is a draggable node. Agent nodes (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini) sit next to sticky notes, a Monaco editor, and a git diff panel on the same board.

Three things that stood out:

**tmux underneath.** Sessions survive node remounts and full app restarts, including live processes. Reboot, come back, still running.

**Hook-driven status, not output scraping.** RUNNING and NEEDS YOU badges, subagent cards with live transcripts, a context-window meter. It reads hooks instead of from text.

**The context links between agents.** Two agent nodes can read each other's transcript on demand. If you're wiring multi-agent work, that's the part that matters.

Where it still leaks: macOS only. v0.2.9. Unsigned, so Gatekeeper yells at you on first launch. BUSL-1.1, not MIT (each release flips to MIT four years later). Six stars. This is early.

Still the sharpest take I've seen on the real problem: your terminals are a map, not a stack.

Anyone else moved off tabs for agent work? Tell me what you're running.
