## Summary

A developer is urged to decline a request to clone a complex corporate site in just one week due to unrealistic expectations. The post warns freelancers about the pitfalls of accepting low-budget and rushed jobs from unprofessional clients, often found in platforms like Facebook groups. It stresses the importance of vetting clients and the need for thorough project scoping before quoting, emphasizing that quality projects require proper timelines and planning.

## Content

A developer recently got a message:

> “How much to clone this site? Client wants it in one week.”

The site in question? A corporate certification platform with over **100 unique pages**, a structured sitemap, and built-in functionality well beyond a simple brochure site.

Here’s the thing: this isn’t just unrealistic - it’s delusional. Even copying just the content from that many pages could take weeks.

Add in templating, forms, functionality, responsiveness, and polish? You’re staring down at least **4–6 months** of work for a solo dev if you’re doing it right.

---

### Avoiding the “Random F Clients” Trap

And then came the realest line in the thread:

> *“Where do you find these random f clients dude? Facebook groups?”*

Freelancers who rely on local WhatsApp threads or Facebook job posts tend to run into the same beasts:

* Low-budget expectations
* Rush jobs with no documentation
* Ghosting, scope creep, and “bas kar bhai” energy

That’s the cost of working where professionalism goes to die.

Better clients don’t fall out of the sky, but they’re not on Facebook either. They usually show up:

* Through inbound leads (LinkedIn, GitHub, Substack)
* On premium networks like Toptal, Upwork, or vetted Discord servers
* From referrals when you’ve actually delivered well before

So when a client says,

> *“Itna time nai hai, kisi aur ko de dunga,”*
> Your answer should be simple:
> *“Sure, good luck.”*

Because the cost of saying **yes** to a bad deal is always higher than the cost of saying **no**.

---

### Cloning Isn’t Copy-Paste

Most clients think “cloning” means just replicating the design. But sites like these aren’t whipped up with drag-and-drop builders.
They include backend logic, data structures, form flows, multilingual content, and a whole web of dependencies that take actual thought to rewire.

Even if you pixel-perfect the front end, there’s still routing, validation, dynamic rendering, and infrastructure. And no - ChatGPT isn’t going to magically build it all for \$300 and a weekend.

---

### How to Push Back (Without Losing Your Mind)

If a client throws a fixed-rate demand at you before agreeing on the timeline or scoping the work, don’t take the bait. Walk them through reality:

> *“This site has 100+ pages. We’re not talking about just a homepage. Even a basic replica needs a breakdown, a timeline, and progressive delivery.
I don’t do flat quotes unless the scope is fixed. If you want to move forward, I work milestone-based or monthly.”*

That’s not being difficult. That’s being professional.

As someone in the chat put it:

> *“Text copy-pasting alone would take 2 months. Design and dev are a whole other story.”*

---

### If They Push Back, Let Them Walk

Sometimes, even after all that, the client will push back with:

> *“Someone else will do it faster.”*

Let them.

Clients who base everything on speed and price tend to cause more harm than good.
They undervalue your time, burn you out, and disappear when the real work starts. You won’t fix their mindset - and you don’t need to.

Saying **“no”** is a filter. Use it.

---

### Know What You’re Building Before You Price It

If you’re ever tempted to throw out a quick quote just to keep the lead alive, stop. Open the sitemap. Look at how many content types there are. Ask about backend needs, hosting, admin dashboards, SEO, multilingual support, user accounts, CMS logic - anything that goes beyond static HTML.

Until you map that out, **you’re not quoting a project - you’re guessing**.
And guesses are how freelancers get burned.
