# That tempered glass panel is silently destroying your GPU's cooling, and here's how to fix it

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Vertically mounting a GPU against a tempered glass side panel restricts airflow to a narrow boundary layer, causing temperatures to spike to 83°C and triggering thermal throttling in most standard PC builds. The fix involves either switching back to horizontal mounting or using a recessed aftermarket bracket like the Cooler Master Universal Mount B3 that moves the GPU 2–3 inches away from the glass. Beyond thermals, cheap PCIe riser cables also introduce signal integrity issues that can silently downgrade a GPU to lower PCIe bandwidth, causing stutters unrelated to heat.
