Instead of agents scraping the DOM, taking screenshots, and guessing at element positions, WebMCP gives them a defined menu of actions to call directly. Two APIs are available: a declarative API using HTML attributes on standard forms, and an imperative API using a registerTool() JavaScript function for complex multi-step flows. The standard is currently in early experimental preview in Chrome 146+ (recommended via Chrome Canary with a flag enabled), and Google is seeking developer feedback.
