Despite high-profile AI-driven layoffs at companies like Amazon, Oracle, and Meta, data tells a different story: nearly half of companies report AI-driven job creation, while only 18% report AI-related layoffs. A University of Maryland study of 155 million job postings found no evidence AI is reducing overall labor demand. Instead, AI is redistributing talent — same headcount, different role mix — with new positions like AI integration architects, eval engineers, and forward deployed engineers (FDEs) emerging rapidly.
