Apple sued OpenAI and two former Apple employees, Tang Tan and Chang Liu, in July over alleged misappropriation of hardware, manufacturing and supply-chain secrets as OpenAI expands into consumer devices. OpenAI counters that Apple encourages personal iCloud use for work documents and escorts departing staff out too quickly to properly hand over files, and that California law lets employees move freely between employers.
