The Balanced Scorecard for the AI Era

AI adoption in high-stakes industries like energy is failing not at the prototype stage but at deployment, where regulatory, security, and safety hurdles kill projects before launch. Drawing on the Balanced Scorecard framework, the author argues that organizations are measuring AI success almost entirely on speed of development while ignoring resilience and compliance. A proposed fifth lens — Resilience and Trust — would force teams to account for the hidden cost of unlaunchable features and bring governance questions to the front of the process, enabling safer innovation rather than paralysis.
