# The best upgrade for my movie nights wasn't a new TV, soundbar, or streaming subscription

## Summary

Watching TV in a completely dark room causes eye strain because your pupils constantly adjust to the contrast between the dark background and bright screen. The solution is bias lighting — an LED strip mounted on the back of your TV set to 6500K (daylight white) to reduce that contrast. Installation involves cleaning the TV back, mounting the strip 2–6 inches from the edges, and calibrating brightness to about 10% of the TV's peak output. A $40–$50 quality LED strip delivers more noticeable improvement to comfort and immersion than expensive TV upgrades.
