## Summary

A developer news roundup covering several notable events: OpenAI slashed GPT-5.6 prices by up to 80%, with some models now costing pennies per task. Chrome 152 beta introduced CSS media state pseudo-classes (:playing, :paused, :buffering, :muted), eliminating the need for manual event listeners in custom media players. Safari Technology Preview 249 shipped @function, if(), attr(), Temporal, and other features in one release. GitHub launched stacked pull requests into public preview, enabling large changes to ship as ordered series of small reviewable PRs. VS Code 1.131 added on-device speech-to-text for chat, editor, and terminal. Cursor arrived on iPad. A statement called 'Pacing the Frontier' was signed by 1,350 AI company employees. Chrome will drop XSLT support on November 17, 2026.

_tl;dr:_

The price of capable AI fell hard this week. OpenAI cut GPT-5.6 prices on July 30, with **Luna down 80 percent** to $0.20 input / $1.20 output per million tokens, the chunks of text an API bills you by, and Terra down 20 percent. The day before, it reset usage limits for every Codex and ChatGPT Work user and said typical Sol use should now last about _18 percent longer_. The model table shows where that leaves things, with two models now down to **pennies a task**.

Chrome 152 hit beta on July 30 with the CSS media state pseudo-classes, so `:playing`, `:paused`, `:buffering`, `:muted` and the rest now match an audio or video element by what it's doing right now. That retires the **play and pause event listener plus a class toggle** every custom player has carried for a decade, and there's one selector trap worth knowing before you write the rule. A day earlier, **Safari Technology Preview 249**, the build Apple ships ahead of Safari itself, landed `@function`, `if()`, `attr()`, Temporal, `popover=hint`, and `closedby` on dialog in a single release.

**GitHub put stacked pull requests into public preview** on July 30, so a big change can ship as an ordered series of small reviewable pull requests that land together in one click. VS Code 1.131 built speech to text into chat, the editor, and the terminal, running on a model that downloads to _your own machine_ so the audio never leaves it, and Cursor arrived on iPad the same day. Pacing the Frontier also went up, a statement signed by **1,350 employees** of the companies training the largest AI models. The issue closes on a date worth putting in the calendar, since XSLT is what turns an RSS feed or a sitemap into a readable page today and it stops working in Chrome on **November 17, 2026**.
