# The colors of GTK

**[GTK Development Blog](https://daily.dev/sources/gtk-blog)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

GTK is adding foundational support for color management and HDR rendering. The new GdkColorState object represents color spaces like sRGB and BT.2100-PQ. GTK has also gained support for the Wayland xx-color-management-v4 protocol, allowing it to communicate color state with compositors. Developers can experiment with linear color space rendering via GDK_DEBUG=linear and HDR rendering via GDK_DEBUG=hdr. Future work includes more color states (OKLCH, YUV), a color-state-aware rendering API, GStreamer integration, and a switch to linear compositing, with some features targeting GTK 4.16.
