Zed has launched a Community Champions program to formally recognize its most active and committed open-source contributors. Since going open source, the Zed repository has grown to over 84k GitHub stars, ranking in the top 200 most-starred repos. From January through May 2026, 527 unique non-staff contributors submitted 1,194 merged pull requests. Champions are identified through internal dashboards and team members' first-hand experience, and their issues and PRs are automatically labeled via a GitHub workflow. Over 60 champions are currently recognized for contributing quality code, filing well-formed issues, and helping users in Discord and GitHub.
