The “cool new stuff” trap

An engineer building a mesh-to-CAD converter describes discovering that an autonomous AI agentic loop was less valuable than expected. The real breakthrough came from building a rigorous validator (BRep checks, deviation measurements, editability scoring) that judged candidate outputs objectively, rather than trusting the agent's reasoning. Three proposed AI-driven improvements were killed after measurement showed no real gains, and the final architecture removed the planning/orchestration loop entirely in favor of a straightforward generate-validate-select pipeline. Fusion's Prismatic mesh conversion was added only as one more candidate generator, not a magic solution.
