# The Dangers of Testing in SQLite as a Postgres User

**[Neon](https://daily.dev/sources/neontech)** · 10 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Using SQLite as a drop-in replacement for Postgres in tests creates a false sense of security. Key differences include SQLite's type affinity (it silently accepts floats in integer columns), lack of native JSON operators and array types, and a simpler concurrency model with database-level locking vs Postgres' MVCC. Performance comparisons are also misleading since SQLite runs in-process while Postgres uses a client-server model. The post then promotes Neon, a serverless Postgres platform, as an alternative that provides ephemeral database branching for fast, isolated, production-faithful test environments.
