# The dawn of the age of the exoskeleton

**[Ars Technica](https://daily.dev/sources/arstechnica)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

Powered exoskeleton devices are increasingly moving from industrial use into new domains such as search-and-rescue, military logistics, and consumer wellness. Seattle Mountain Rescue is testing Hypershell exoskeletons for backcountry rescues, while IKEA, Ford, Boeing, and Mazda Toyota already use them on assembly lines. A Finnish project (ExoPELA) found benefits for firefighters, and Ukrainian soldiers have used Hypershell units to carry artillery shells with less fatigue. The exoskeleton market is estimated at around $500 million currently, with projections to double or triple by the mid-2030s, driven by cheaper motors, sensors, and control systems.
