# The Epic Games Launcher is coming to Linux, but the Heroic team isn't too worried

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 2 min read · 13 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

Epic Games has confirmed, via a representative on its official Community Server, that a native Linux version of the Epic Games Launcher is coming, though it will take additional development work and won't arrive immediately. Currently Linux users rely on community tools like Heroic Games Launcher to access Epic titles. Heroic developer CommandMC responded that the team isn't worried, arguing that since Heroic's core contributors are Linux-native users, they'll catch and fix issues faster than Epic, for whom Linux support will likely be a secondary priority. The outcome remains uncertain, with speculation about whether Epic will commit long-term or abandon the official client after launch.

## Questions this post answers

### Is Epic Games making an official native Linux version of the Epic Games Launcher?

Yes, a representative from Epic Games confirmed on the official Epic Games Store Community Server that a native Linux client is planned and will arrive "soon," though it needs more development work than simply porting the existing launcher. No release date has been given yet, and Linux gamers currently must rely on community tools like Heroic to play Epic titles.

### How do I play Epic Games Store titles on Linux right now?

There is no official Epic Games Launcher for Linux yet, so players use community-maintained clients such as the Heroic Games Launcher, which wraps Epic's store and library functionality for Linux systems. Heroic's developers are all Linux (and some macOS) users themselves, which they say helps them catch and fix platform-specific bugs quickly.

> Well epic hired linux native devs for the linux build so its going to be the same and they will have better funding. I'm not saying heroic will die but this probably means more games by epic will have better support.
