The Foundation Was Already Poured

Cloud native infrastructure — Kubernetes scheduling, identity, policy, observability, and governance — already provides the foundation enterprise AI needs. Rather than replacing cloud native, AI workloads have inherited it, much like serverless and edge computing did before. Choosing an AI model is not an AI strategy; the real engineering difficulty lies in deployment, security, cost controls, and audit trails that the surrounding platform provides. Autonomous agents introduce new challenges around identity and governance, but these are extensions of existing cloud native primitives, not reasons to rebuild from scratch. Organizations that skipped platform engineering discipline will pay twice — once for ungoverned microservices and again for AI bolted onto that same mess.
