The NAS feature I use every day isn't storage, it's Docker

A personal account of how Docker transformed a neglected Synology NAS into a useful self-hosting platform. After finding traditional NAS storage redundant due to existing drives and cloud backups, the author discovered Docker (via Synology's Container Manager) as a way to run always-on self-hosted services like Home Assistant, Donetick, Jotty Page, and a Cloudflare Tunnel daemon — all on a low-power device with only 2GB of RAM. The result was breaking away from Big Tech services and getting real daily value from the hardware.
