A developer reflects on their long-time use of Rake as a task runner and their ongoing search for a suitable replacement. Make and shell scripting are dismissed due to personal preference. Mise (TOML-based) and Sake (Swift-based) are explored but neither fully satisfies. The appeal of Rake's custom DSL approach is acknowledged alongside its drawbacks, and the author remains open to suggestions.
