These Electronic Textiles Don’t Need Chips or Batteries

Researchers have developed electronic textiles that don't need chips or batteries. These smart fibers can scavenge electromagnetic energy from the environment, act as sensors, and even transmit wireless signals. The fibers are comfortable to wear, can be woven into textiles or used as embroidery thread, and maintain their performance after washes. The touch-sensitive capabilities of these fibers have potential applications in gathering tactile data for training robots and improving everyday tasks.
