# Trying Out The Allwinner-Based Walnut Pi SBC

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The Walnut Pi 1B is a Raspberry Pi 4 form factor compatible single-board computer using an Allwinner H616/H618 SoC with quad-core Cortex-A53 processor, comparable to Raspberry Pi 3 performance. Available in RAM configurations from 1GB DDR3 to 4GB LPDDR4, the board features colored GPIO pins similar to the Asus Tinkerboard. However, it suffers from typical Allwinner board limitations including a basic Linux image and missing hardware acceleration due to proprietary driver unavailability. While cheaper than official Raspberry Pi boards, better alternatives exist for users needing more than basic functionality, including repurposed Android TV boxes.
