# Turning A Toy Game Boy Into A Real Game Boy

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 1 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A maker modded a Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Lil' Gamer toy — which closely resembles a Nintendo Game Boy — into a fully functional Game Boy Color. The build used a donor GBC with a broken screen, fitting its mainboard inside the toy shell. Wires were soldered to connect Nintendo's PCB with the toy's PCB to reuse the original buttons and speaker. A blown fuse required stripping non-essential parts from the toy's PCB. Creative additions included new Select and Start buttons (absent from the original toy) and a large OLED screen replacement that suits the chunky aesthetic of the toy shell.
