# Turning crystal flaws into quantum highways: A new route towards scalable solid-state qubits

**[Phys.org](https://daily.dev/sources/phys)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Researchers demonstrated that crystal dislocations in diamond can serve as quantum highways for connecting qubits. Using first-principles simulations, they showed nitrogen-vacancy centers positioned near these line defects maintain or improve quantum properties, including enhanced coherence times due to symmetry breaking that creates clock transitions resistant to magnetic noise. The findings suggest using dislocations as scaffolds for arranging qubits into ordered arrays, offering a new approach to building scalable solid-state quantum interconnects.
