# TypeScript 7 lands in Node Weekly, ECMAScript 2026 officially approved

**[Web Digest](https://daily.dev/sources/webdev_digest)** · 4 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

TypeScript 7's Go-port compiler is getting wider ecosystem coverage today, with Node Weekly confirming the release alongside npm v12 and a CVE dispute from a core maintainer. ECMAScript 2026 was formally approved by Ecma International on June 30, adding Array.fromAsync, Error.isError, Math.sumPrecise, and a handful of other long-awaited features. Google announced LiteRT.js, a browser ML inference library claiming 3-60x speedups over TensorFlow.js via WebGPU and WebNN. On the CSS front, modern anchor positioning and the Popover API are getting solid write-ups that make a real case for deleting overlay JavaScript entirely.

**TLDR:** TypeScript 7's Go-port compiler is getting wider ecosystem coverage today, with Node Weekly confirming the release alongside npm v12 and a CVE dispute from a core maintainer. ## ECMAScript 2026 officially approved with seven new features

Ecma International ratified ES2026 on June 30. The additions that will actually change day-to-day code: Array.fromAsync for consuming async iterators without manual loops, Error.isError as a reliable alternative to instanceof across realms, Math.sumPrecise for floating-point sums that don't accumulate rounding errors, and Map/WeakMap getOrInsert to kill the check-then-set boilerplate. Uint8Array Base64/hex conversion and JSON.parse source text access round out the release. These are all stage-4 features, so they're already in recent V8 and SpiderMonkey builds. ## Google releases LiteRT.js for in-browser ML inference with WebGPU and WebNN

LiteRT.js is Google's JavaScript binding for its on-device inference runtime, available on npm now. The headline numbers: up to 3x faster than TensorFlow.js on CPU, and 5-60x faster when the browser can route work to GPU via WebGPU or NPU via WebNN. It runs .tflite models directly, with PyTorch conversion supported via LiteRT Torch. Ultralytics already ships official LiteRT export for YOLO models. If you're doing object detection, depth estimation, or audio processing client-side and still on TensorFlow.js, this is worth benchmarking. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/TRneIHlDh)

## shadcn makes Base UI the default, Radix vs Base UI comparison lands

shadcn switched its default headless library from Radix to Base UI in July 2026, and a detailed technical comparison is now out covering the practical differences. The API split is real: Radix uses asChild/Slot composition while Base UI uses render props. Base UI has active MUI backing and is closing component gaps fast. The post includes a migration guide for existing shadcn projects. If you're starting a new project or evaluating a Radix migration, the comparison is worth reading before you commit. ## webpack-dev-server v6 drops Node below 22, removes SockJS, converts to ESM

webpack-dev-server v6 is a significant breaking release. Express bumps to v5, Node.js minimum is now 22.15.0, SockJS is gone in favor of native WebSocket, and the source is now native ESM with dual ESM/CJS exports. The spdy HTTP/2 dependency is replaced with node:http2. There's also a security fix that rejects cross-site requests to internal endpoints. If you're running webpack-dev-server in CI or have custom middleware, check the breaking changes list before upgrading. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/nYkNGPMoy)

- **Phoenix LiveView 1.2.0 ships colocated CSS with @scope support:** LiveView 1.2.0 adds colocated CSS directly inside HEEx component templates with optional CSS @scope isolation, which required splitting HEEx compilation into separate tokenization and parsing steps — a meaningful architectural change for anyone building Phoenix components. - **Medal.tv cut renderer bundle from 40MB to 2.7MB with Rolldown and ESM:** The specific wins: removing barrel files saved 2.6MB, dynamic i18n imports saved 13MB, route-based code splitting saved 5.4MB, and switching to ESM improved tree-shaking by 4MB — concrete numbers worth referencing if you're making the case for a similar cleanup. - **Cloudflare Workers Cache ships on all plans including free:** Workers Cache adds a tiered caching layer in front of Cloudflare Workers via a single wrangler.jsonc config line, with cache hits skipping Worker execution entirely and tag-based purging scoped per Worker — Astro's Cloudflare adapter already integrates it. - **Svelte 5 bundle one-third the size of React 19 in same-dashboard rebuild:** A developer rebuilt the same internal dashboard in both frameworks: Svelte 5 produced a bundle one-third the size with 40% less code, though React Compiler v1.0 closed much of the ergonomic gap and Next.js still wins on ecosystem and hiring. > The 10x tsc number gets the headlines, but the bigger day-to-day win from the Go port is the language server: go-to-definition and find-all-references on a large monorepo stop stalling, since the LSP runs native instead of through the JS type-checker. Worth testing tsgo against your own build first though — at preview it's not yet full parity on the programmatic compiler API and declaration emit, so custom transformer / ts-patch setups can break.
