Uber announced a partnership with autonomous drone-delivery company Zipline to fly Uber Eats orders in the US, backed by an undisclosed strategic investment. The rollout starts later this year in Zipline's existing markets like Houston and Phoenix before expanding, with a shared goal of one million drone deliveries daily by the end of 2029. Zipline already serves Walmart, Panera, Chipotle, and Wendy's, and claims over 135 million autonomous miles and 2.5 million deliveries. Regulatory hurdles from the FAA and public acceptance remain the biggest obstacles to scaling beyond line-of-sight flights.
