Uber has unveiled a sensor-laden Hyundai Ioniq 5 prototype as part of its new AV Labs division, designed to collect real-world driving data for its autonomous vehicle partners including Waymo, Avride, and WeRide. The vehicle is equipped with 14 cameras, 8 solid-state lidar sensors, and 9 radars, with data processed through Nvidia's Dual Drive Thor computer. Uber plans to deploy 500 of these vehicles globally in 2026, targeting 2 million miles of high-fidelity data per month. This marks Uber's first self-assembled vehicle since selling its AV division to Aurora in 2020.
