Canonical and the Ubuntu Release Team have introduced a new policy requiring all Ubuntu flavors (such as Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu MATE) to submit successful beta releases on schedule in order to maintain official status for a given Ubuntu cycle. Previously, exceptions were occasionally granted to flavors that missed the beta milestone while still shipping a final ISO. Ubuntu Kylin was cited as the most recent example of such an exception during the Ubuntu 26.04 LTS cycle. The change aims to improve testing quality and release reliability across all official Ubuntu flavors, with no further exceptions to be granted.
