UK parents warned over AI child abuse imagery risk

The UK's National Crime Agency and Internet Watch Foundation have issued joint guidance warning parents to stop publicly posting children's photos online due to a sharp rise in AI-generated child sexual abuse imagery. The IWF found 8,029 such images and videos in 2025, a 14% increase, with AI-generated abuse videos surging from 13 to 3,440 in a single year. Parents are advised to lock down privacy settings, audit old posts, and restrict sharing to trusted groups. The UK government has also moved to ban nudification apps and is enforcing the Online Safety Act, including investigations into Telegram and potential under-16 social media bans.
