Databricks has announced the General Availability of Unity AI Gateway, a centralized platform for managing AI spend, security, and model access across enterprise AI agents and tools. Key capabilities include end-to-end observability and cost attribution across models, providers, teams, and applications via Unity Catalog integration; proactive budget controls and hard spend caps; Smart Routing (Beta) that dynamically routes requests to the most cost-effective model based on quality, cost, and availability; and unified governance covering external agents, MCP servers, coding assistants, and skills. The gateway enforces PII guardrails, rate limits, and audit trails, and provides native access to frontier models from Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini, and others through a single API. Customers like Rivian, Asana, Zepto, and Edmunds are already using it at scale, with over a quadrillion tokens processed in the past year.
