The `ubuntu-latest` label will migrate to `ubuntu-24`, and Artifact actions v3 will be deprecated. New security verification for workflows from forked repositories and a webhook rate limit are introduced. Updates to network allow lists for self-hosted runners and Azure, as well as enforced verification for Copilot subscriptions, are also coming. ## Content # Upcoming Changes and Updates to GitHub Actions ## Migration to `ubuntu-24` Starting December 5, 2024, the `ubuntu-latest` label used in GitHub Actions workflows will migrate to `ubuntu-24`. This transition will conclude around January 17, 2025. Workflows may be impacted by the removal or alteration of certain packages. It's recommended to review and update workflows to ensure compatibility with `ubuntu-24`. ## Deprecation of Artifact Actions v3 Artifact actions v3 will be deprecated by December 5, 2024. In preparation for this change, there will be scheduled brownouts starting in mid-November 2024. These brownouts are intended to alert users and encourage transitioning to supported versions before the final deprecation date. ## Updated Workflow Validation for Forked Repositories New validation requirements are being introduced for workflows triggered by pull requests from forked repositories. These will require additional author and event actor verification to enhance security and integrity. ## Webhook Rate Limits GitHub is implementing a new webhook rate limit, allowing up to 1500 events every 10 seconds per repository. This change aims to manage load and improve performance. ## Network Allow List Updates for Self-Hosted Runners and Azure Self-hosted runners and Azure private networking need to update their network allow lists. This is to accommodate traffic to various updated GitHub domains and IP addresses. ## Enforcement of Copilot Subscriptions Verification for Copilot subscriptions is now managed through specific endpoints based on user subscription levels, further ensuring appropriate access and compliance.
