GitHub Spark, a tool for quickly building AI-powered apps, is being deprecated. New users and app creation are blocked as of August 4, 2026, and the service fully shuts down August 31, 2026. Existing deployed apps will continue to work, but users should export their code before the deadline. GitHub Models (used by Spark's llm() function) already retired on July 30, 2026, so apps using llm() need to switch to a third-party inference provider. GitHub cites the advancement of AI models and agentic tools like GitHub Copilot in VS Code and CLI as the reason for discontinuing Spark.
