While commercial OS vendors like Microsoft and Apple already collect account data, this poses a significant challenge for FOSS projects. Some, like MidnightBSD and the DB48X calculator app, are preemptively banning users in affected states rather than complying. Fedora, Linux Mint, FreeDOS, and Canonical are all discussing how to respond. System76's CEO argues the laws are too vague, overly broad, and ultimately ineffective since minors will easily circumvent them.
