A busy poll mode is being added to USB4STREAM in Linux 7.3, allowing latency-critical applications to avoid interrupt-based scheduling at the cost of higher CPU usage. The feature, developed by Intel's Mika Westerberg with AI assistance, is toggled via a new ConfigFS attribute at /sys/kernel/config/thunderbolt/stream/[xdomain].[service]/$name/busy_poll. The patch is currently in thunderbolt.git's next branch ahead of the Linux 7.3 merge window.
