Valve has officially announced that its Linux-based SteamOS will now support the Asus ROG Ally and other third-party handheld gaming devices. This confirmation came from Valve designer Lawrence Yang, who detailed the company’s broader plan to enable more manufacturers to use SteamOS on their devices.
Currently, the ROG Ally, a popular gaming handheld developed by Asus, runs on Windows. Valve’s goal is to extend SteamOS compatibility to it and other similar devices, although this integration is still in progress and not immediately ready for release. The intent is to provide users with the flexibility of choosing between SteamOS and Windows, enhancing the gaming experience on these handhelds.
As part of these efforts, Valve is also preparing complete Windows drivers for the new Steam Deck OLED, enabling seamless dual-booting between SteamOS and Windows. The update will include support for extra keys on the ROG Ally and potentially roll out new features that are still under testing.
