# Vercel acquires Better Auth, React Router v8 lands

**[Web Digest](https://daily.dev/sources/webdev_digest)** · 4 min read · 3 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Vercel acquired Better Auth — 4.7 million weekly npm downloads — to solve the AI agent identity problem, integrating it into Vercel Connect and Eve while keeping the MIT license intact. React Router v8 shipped with server component exports from routes and new router state hooks. Node.js 26 is out with Temporal API enabled by default and V8 14.6. The HTTP QUERY method story from yesterday gets a practical implementation angle worth reading alongside the RFC.

## Vercel acquires Better Auth for AI agent identity

Vercel bought Better Auth, the TypeScript auth framework sitting at 4.7 million weekly npm downloads. The acquisition is about a specific problem: AI agents today run under the deploying user's credentials, which makes scoped access, auditing, and revocation basically impossible. Better Auth had already started building Agent Auth — an open protocol for delegated, revocable agent identities — and that work now feeds directly into Vercel Connect and Eve. Creator Bereket Engida joins Vercel. The framework stays open source under MIT with the same governance model. [Read more](https://daily.dev/feed-by-ids?id=E6Abw2usn&id=KA7FNAFpK)

## React Router v8 released with server component route exports

React Router v8 is out. Future flags are now on by default, routes can export server components directly, and there are new router state hooks. The breaking changes are described as minor. If you've been running with future flags enabled, the upgrade path should be straightforward — but worth auditing your route exports before cutting over. ## Node.js 26 ships Temporal API without a flag, drops legacy stream modules

Node.js 26 enables the Temporal API by default — no experimental flag needed. V8 bumps to 14.6, adding Map.prototype.getOrInsert() and Iterator.concat(). Undici moves to 8.0. The release removes http.Server.prototype.writeHeader() and the _stream_* modules, and NODE_MODULE_VERSION is now 147, so native add-ons need a rebuild. It enters LTS in October 2026 and is the last release under the old odd/even versioning schedule. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/8f8Xftnj7)

## Storybook 10.3 ships MCP addon so agents query real component APIs

Storybook's new @storybook/addon-mcp exposes your component library as callable MCP tools. Instead of hallucinating prop contracts from training data, agents call list-all-documentation, get-documentation, and run-story-tests at runtime. A side-by-side demo in the post is pretty telling: without MCP, an agent produced 263 lines of bespoke inline HTML that ignored the design system entirely; with MCP, it made six tool calls first and wrote 188 lines that correctly imported existing components. The self-healing loop is the interesting part — when story tests failed due to missing htmlFor/id linkage, the agent fixed the shared TextInput component, fixing every story that uses it. - **React Compiler v1.0 migration: two real breakage patterns:** React Hook Form's watch() freezes live previews due to interior mutability incompatibility (fix: 'use no memo' wrapper), and removing useCallback from Chart.js click handlers surfaces stale data that useCallback had been accidentally masking — concrete failure modes worth knowing before you enable the compiler in production. - **TanStack Start RSC ships 40% less JS than Next.js but isn't production-ready yet:** A same-app comparison found TanStack Start at 116KB gzipped versus Next.js at 193KB, with build times of 1.3s versus 5.1s, but the verdict is that Next.js remains the safer RSC choice for content-heavy apps while TanStack's RSC layer is still too early to ship. - **CSS border-shape property lands in Chrome, shapes borders and shadows together:** The new border-shape property accepts the same values as clip-path but preserves borders, box-shadows, and outlines rather than clipping them — currently Chrome-only, with interactive demos covering animated blobs, loaders, and breakout background effects. - **Angular 22 stabilizes Signal Forms from @angular/forms/signals:** Signal Forms, introduced experimentally in Angular 21, are now stable in Angular 22 — writable signal as the model, a form() function producing a fully signal-based FieldTree, built-in validators, and two-way sync between model and form without manual subscription management.
