A vintage 1980s Canadian video titler called the Scriptovision Super Micro Script has been repaired and reverse-engineered into a programmable 8-bit computer. The device, originally designed to overlay text and graphics onto video streams, uses a 6502 CPU and 6847 VDG video chip. The restoration involved repairing the hardware, decoding scrambled address and data lines (an anti-cloning measure), and implementing a bit-banged serial port for uploading custom programs at 19.2 kbps. A MAME emulator called SMSBUG was also created to enable software development and allow others to experiment with the platform, available on GitHub.
